An effective webinar needs to excite not bore your audience. Here are some tips on how to achieve that:

1. Use an Exciting Topic

First and foremost, you have to set the right tone for your webinar so that from the very start your audience is interested and involved. Apart from drawing in more people to your webinar, an exciting topic will also inspire you to create content that isn’t boring.

So, choose topics that offer specific solutions to specific problems. Or topics that clearly outline benefits or trade secrets that will excite audiences.

For example, use “5 Effective Ways To Bust Weight Loss Plateaus” instead of “How To Lose Weight.”

Coming up with precise and innovative topics also helps you have something new to say which, in itself, will help eliminate boredom and make your webinar much more interesting.

2. Start and End with a Bang

Begin your presentation with an insightful statement or a shocking statistic related to your niche or your industry. For example, “1/3 of US adults are obese, and obesity is the main culprit in the top 2 causes of premature death that result from lifestyle diseases.”

End the webinar with an inspirational statement, for example, “You can do it, you can lose weight, we believe in you, and we are here to help.”

3. Create Interesting Slides

There is an art to using slides to avoid presenting a boring webinar. Text on a white background is really boring, so why not use high quality pictures, live action footage, animated graphs, and other interesting content instead?

  • Choose powerful images and video
  • Avoid bulleted lists
  • Use visually-rich slides that highlight you main point
  • Try to use as few words as possible
  • Never read or repeat what is on your slides, rather use them to bring your talking points to lift.

If your slides contain content that provides a visual “feast” for the eyes, your audience will never be bored.

4. Use Humor

When done right, humor can turn a boring presentation into an interesting one. Humor will help to hold your audience attention and make your webinar much more memorable.

One of the best ways of incorporating humor is to weave it into the content of your presentation, perhaps industry mishaps or situations where your product could save embarrassment for your audience. A word of warning: never tell jokes that may offend anyone or are off-color.

5. Use Polls and Surveys

Polls boost engagement and allow your audience to feel like they are a real part of the conversation, which helps make webinars more fun and dynamic. People love to express their opinion and learn from others.

Allowing your audience to make a meaningful contribution, avoids their minds drifting and losing interest.

6. Use Questions Effectively

Keep their interest by answering questions live within the webinar presentation.

  • Ask your audience questions – Asking questions is a great way to stimulate thinking and keep your audience mentally involved.
  • Q&A session – Don’t leave the Q&A to the end of the webinar, which is too predictable. Instead, do short Q&A sessions throughout your presentation. This allows the audience to get value, stay interested and keeps them engaged.

Conclusion

For some it can be a challenge to present an exciting webinar that doesn’t seem tedious and uninteresting. However, with the proper forethought and planning, you can make your next webinar one to remember – for all the right reasons!

Homework for you: Evaluate your last presentation to see if you missed the mark with any of the above suggestions.
